Housing Needed We are looking for housing for Rabbinic Intern Josh Samuels for the following weekends between now and the end of June: Oct. 17-19, Nov. 21-23, Dec. 5-7, Dec. 19-21, Jan. 16-18, Jan. 23-25, Feb. 20-22, Mar. 6-8, Mar. 13-15, Apr. 3-5, May 1-3, May 15-17, June 5-7. Help Needed for Yom Kippur Set-up We are looking for volunteers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, October 6, 7 and 8, to help set up chairs for the Yom Kippur services at CBB. Sisterhood is collecting items for its Mitzvah Day Pillowcase Project. Needed
are small
puzzle books (suduko, word search etc.),
toothbrushes, plush animals, journals or anything else teens would like. If
you have anything to donate, please mark it for the Pillowcase Project and
leave it in the baskets outside of Karen Greenberg's office (near the
Religious School). Calling all Preschool Moms! Join the members of Sisterhood after preschool drop off on October 7th and decorate a pillowcase under Jacque Book's and Sissy Taran's direction! We will be in Meeting Room 1 and Meeting Room 2, in the Religious School hallway near the back patio. Partner's Perspective on Raising a Jewish Family Everyone knows that marriage isn't easy. For couples of different faiths, finding a spiritual balance while navigating each other’s religious beliefs and cultural traditions can test even the strongest of relationships. Guest speaker Jim Keen will explores these challenges as he shares his own journey as a Christian father helping his Jewish wife raise their two daughters in the Jewish faith. As an observant Protestant raising Jewish children, Jim provides an unusual perspective and offers a great deal of insight, humor and wisdom. A book signing will follow the discussion. Monday, October 6 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Let’s Talk About it: Sex and Love in Jewish Literature. A new class led by Dr. Mashey Bernstein, PhD (Lecturer at UCSB), and held at Santa Barbara Hillel, 781 Embarcadero Del Mar in Isla Vista. The class will be held every 2 weeks. Dr. Bernstein will lead a discussion on the theme of sex and love in American, Israeli and Yiddish fiction. Each session will begin with a short lecture and be followed by lively discussion by all who wish to participate. Open to all in the community who enjoy reading and talking about books. This class is designed particularly for people who might be considering converting to Judaism, and their partners, but it is open to anyone who wants to strengthen their foundation of Jewish knowledge. Enrollment in the class will be open until the end of November and then will close until this time next year.
