Shabbat Services

We recognize that when it comes to worship services, people have different needs: some people were raised in the Reform Movement; others come from a more traditional background; some prefer to attend services on Friday night, others on Saturday morning, more and more are attending both. Below are descriptions of our Shabbat services.

Friday nights: This is a progressive Reform service. We use the URJ’s gender-sensitive siddur, Gates of Prayer. The Cantor plays his guitar, the Rabbi and congregation sing along with gusto. Our adult choir and our Temple band each participate one Friday night per month (check the calendar for specific dates). Friday night services begin at 7:30 p.m. During summer months this service is held in the Abrahams Outdoor Chapel at 6:00 p.m.

Young Family Services: During the school year, Young Familiy Services are held one Friday night per month at 5:30 p.m. and one Saturday morning per month at 9:00 a.m. These services are geared towards families with young children. Check the calendar for specific dates.

Shabbat Morning Service: Commencing at 10:30 a.m. each Saturday morning, this Reform service has a distinctly traditional bent. We use a siddur that was compiled and edited by Rabbi Cohen. It is a joyful and participative worship experience and all are welcome whether we celebrate a bar/bat mitzvah or just a sweet Shabbat morning together.

Seudah Shelishit: This once a month gathering on a late Saturday afternoon includes song, study, and a vegetarian potluck. Check the calendar for specific dates.
