  From the President

Cantor Mark Childs
Last week Cantor Childs wrote about the month of Elul being a time to prepare for the coming Days of Awe.  It is great timing for me personally to be preparing, as I’m one month away from the arrival of my baby boy!  Though it is commonly called “nesting” when referring to getting ready for a baby, it is great timing for me to reflect on the coming year ahead and what that means for me personally and as President of CBB. I always look forward to this time of year in the Jewish calendar because it means reconnecting with friends and family I haven’t seen in some time.  I look forward to eating the traditional foods that my family has eaten since I can remember (especially my mom’s Apple Noodle Kugel for Rosh Hashana and her Pecan Kugal for Break-the-Fast!).  I look forward to my renewed energy, spirituality and reflections on the year ahead when attending services for the High Holy Days and throwing our “sins” into the ocean during Tashlich.

The Board also has a lot to prepare for in the coming months.  There are so many interesting and diverse programs taking place at CBB this year.  I am particularly looking forward to some special guest speakers in November (Dr. Ron Wolfson) and December (Rabbi Sam Joseph) and seeing how the Board progresses in working toward our goals in the areas of Membership, Youth Engagement, Social Action and Caring Community.  The Board continues to discuss ways to make our community even stronger than it already is and I look forward to these invigorating discussions at our upcoming meetings. Wishing everyone a healthy and happy new year, and I look forward to seeing you and hearing of your New Year preparations and/or reflections.
