Rabbi Cohen

The Hebrew calendar month of Elul begins Tuesday evening, August 6th.  During Elul, for the month before Rosh Hashanah, it is customary to begin preparations for the High Holy Days.  While those of us in the office started weeks ago on the physical preparations for welcoming our community to the Temple, now is the time that we as individuals throughout our community, are invited to embark on a month (or even a few days) of introspection, personal reflection and preparation. The Union for Reform Judaism's Website is a great resource for information about this practice, as well as other customs for the High Holy Days and many more things about Judaism. On their home page, check out the blog post, #BlogElul 2013: Who’s In?  It’s an invitation to use social media to share and read reflections on topics throughout the month. I also signed up for Craig Taubman’s Jewels of Elul.  A daily dose of inspiration, as A-Jewel-A-Day is delivered to your inbox starting Wednesday, August 7th, the first day of Elul. And if you want to share your reflections with us, please send them to info@cbbsb.org and we’ll post them on our website.  Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks!
