  From Rabbi Stone

I have been told that the Rabbi’s Corner of our Monday email is prime real estate for getting out the word and making an impact. Therefore, I rarely use this space to talk about past events, but this week feels different.  A little over a week ago I attended my first ever Althea Stroum and Pat Glazer Memorial Family Camp and it was magical. From celebrating Shabbat together and making mezuzot, to sing-a-longs and story-telling, we had an incredible weekend. But from my perspective, the best part of Family Camp was getting to know everyone on a deeper level.  Beyond sitting in class together or having brief conversation at oneg, Family Camp is a rare opportunity to spend a whole weekend together really getting to know more about one another.

While our next Family Camp won’t be for another year, I am giving up this prime real email estate because I want to encourage you—no, in fact beg you—to join us next year for family camp so that more people can share in this magical feeling. And if you joined us at Family Camp this year, thanks for the memories. And as they say, what happens at Family Camp stays at Family Camp!
And in case you were wondering how to re-create a little piece of Family Camp each month, I encourage you to join us every third Friday for our Ruach Shabbat services, which is our family-friendly Shabbat experience where we focus on lots of singing and story-telling. I hope to see you all there on November 15th at 6pm!

CBB - Did you know...

On November 9 to November 10, 1938, Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and businesses and killed close to 100 Jews. In the aftermath of that terrible night, some 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. German Jews had been subjected to repressive policies since 1933, when Adolf Hitler came to power.  However, prior to Kristallnacht, these Nazi policies had been primarily nonviolent. After Kristallnacht, conditions for German Jews grew increasingly worse, which ultimately led to the Nazis implementing their "Final Solution" to the "Jewish problem," carrying out the systematic murder of some 6 million European Jews –11 million people in total -in what came to be known as the Holocaust.

This Wednesday evening, November 6th, we will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass,” an important turning point for the Jews in Europe leading to the tragedy of the Holocaust. Please see details in the column to the right.
