  From the Rabbi

This is a traditionally quiet week at CBB, so I thought it would be nice to liven things up with a special sermon/presentation this Friday night during services. My colleague, Cantor Shira Belfer, who is an authority on Israeli folk dance and folk song, will be in town. I invited her to share with us some of the history of these art forms that were created specifically to accompany the building of a new Israel. She will speak about it, sing some selections from the folk-song repertoire, and teach the dances that the pioneers (Halutzim) danced into the night. The Oneg Shabbat following the service will include some special folk dancing led by Cantor Belfer.
I think it will be very interesting and fun. Come celebrate Shabbat, stretch your legs, and bring all those people that are visiting or home for the winter break. You need to get them out of the house!

The Stone Soup Team needs volunteers!
Would you enjoy making soup with other CBB volunteers? How about taking time once a month to deliver a simple soup and bread meal to a CBB congregant who is ill, home from the hospital, or experiencing another life transition? Nothing says "we're thinking of you" like a good bowl of Jewish homemade soup! Please contact Elizabeth for more details. A kickoff meeting is in the works.

Driver wanted
Are you planning to come to Friday night services this week? Would you be willing to bring a senior from our community with you? We are in need of a driver this week. The holiday season is the time when our community elders most want to participate in services, yet so many of our regular drivers are out of town.  Please contact the CBB office if you can help with this simple, yet important mitzvah!

Sinner – winner of Venice Film Festival, tells the story of a young Jewish student caught up in a cycle of abuse (mature content).

Let there be light, presents a rare viewpoint of an Orthodox family torn apart, while telling the moving tale of a secular family’s rebirth (includes adult language).

Other films are Femme Q&A, Sharon Stone's film about women empowerment and The Suspect, two African American social scientists pose as bank robbers in an effort to understand the racial dynamics of small-town law enforcement.
