  From the Rabbi

Rabbi Stone
As 2014 quickly approaches, it can only mean one thing—New Year’s resolutions! But did you know that the word “resolution” comes from the Latin word resolutionem, which is the process by which something is reduced into a simpler form.
So rather than promising ourselves to be healthier, to go to the gym, to read, or to get outside more, perhaps we need to think of our resolutions in a more basic way. So, as this New Year approaches, I am resolved to be more grateful, more compassionate, more patient and wise. I hope that you will join me in thinking about our New Year’s resolutions in a simpler way and that you will share with other people in our community what your hopes and dreams are for the year. Last but not least, I hope that in this New Year we are more resolved to create a year of peace in our homes and on our way.

Shavua Tov!
Rabbi Stone

Pop Up Film Festival 2014
January 23, 2014
The Arlington Theatre
Temple member Daniel Bollag is producing a unique film festival featuring 7 controversial documentary films with a focus on social injustice and civil rights, all in one day. Two films are by award winning Israeli director and recent local resident, Meni Phillip, a well-know Israeli singer who moved from being an Orthodox to a secular Jew.
Sinner – winner of Venice Film Festival, tells the story of a young Jewish student caught up in a cycle of abuse (mature content).

Let there be light, presents a rare viewpoint of an Orthodox family torn apart, while telling the moving tale of a secular family’s rebirth (includes adult language).

Other films include Femme Q&A, Sharon Stone's film about women empowerment and The Suspect, two African American social scientists pose as bank robbers in an effort to understand the racial dynamics of small-town law enforcement. However, their experiment takes an unplanned, deadly turn. Tickets are $15 per movie or $50 for an all-day pass. More information click here.
Meet director Meni Phillip on January 5th at Sunday Morning Live.
